Yes, I know, I’ve posted a Dogfish Head Brewery Cap before – but, this is from a different beer! We have many caps, but some of them are from the same breweries… what can we say – when a brewery has one good beer, they normally have several that follow!
The last time I posted a Dogfish Head cap, I talked about the Palo Santo Marron <swoon>, but with this cap I will talk about another favorite of mine – the Raison D’Etre. The Raison D’Etre is a rich Brown Ale that is actually brewed with raisins and beet sugar. You can totally taste the raisin flavors, which meld well inside a brown ale. This particular brown is also brewed with a Belgian style yeast (can you say “yum”?) which gives it a unique flavor and bubbly head.
Dogfish is one of my favorite breweries, brewing so many different styles of beer that are all complex and tasty. Don’t be surprised if you see another cap from them in my blog soon! Cheers!

Great beer! I’ve had it and the Raison d’Extra. The Raison d’Extra is the insane 18% ABV pumped up version. Both are very good.

I’ve tried the Raison D’Extra too!! It is delicious, but honestly I couldn’t drink that much of it. It was more like a sherry made from raisins – so rich and alcohol tasting. Delicious, but too much for me to drink more than a few ounces! I do ❤ Dogfish Head though… they're brilliant in the mixtures they come up with!

My first Raison D’Extra experience was pretty funny. I love boozy beers and didn’t know the alcohol content (neither did the bartender). The keg was leftover from a DFH party at the bar of the night before and the bartender was told to push the beer and clear the tap. Since me and my crew were regulars the bartender was selling to us for $3/pint. Since you have had this you know it’s not a “pint” beer and is especially not a 3 pints at lunch beer. I didn’t know this at the time. Had three pints in the span of an hour and a half and then went back to my office and fell asleep on my desk … not pretty.
The guys that were with me also passed out. Fortunately we were the only ones in the office. After waking up and wandering into my office one of my office mates asked, “Did we just get our asses kick by raisin beer or did that bartender slip us something?”

That’s hilarious! Yeah, I think once you have an experience like that, you’d start to ask what’s the ABV! But, then again, at $3 a pint – how can you pass that up??
