Kasteel – Too Sweet, Even For Me!

Kasteel makes an awesome Belgian Tripel that I thoroughly enjoy, so a Belgian Strong Ale by them must be stellar as well, right???  Well, not necessarily!

While I enjoyed the maltiness, raisin, spices and warming alcohol feel of an 11% beer – it was surprisingly way to sweet and syrupy for me.  This bottle was split between four friends and it was so overwhelmingly rich with candy sugar, I couldn’t finish my glass.  I was pretty dissapointed, since I was so looking forward to this beer.  But hey, I still love their Tripel – so I’ll just pick that up next time!
