Irene Preparedness

We stocked up on delicious beer for our beach trip this week… but it’s turned out to be great hurricane supplies as well!  Last night we had a Palo Santo from Dogfish Head… yum!  Here you can see some Ovila, the Sierra collaboration – second addition, which we’re going to try to hold out on opening!  The first Ovila that I tried was the dubbel; it was malty and delicious!  This second Ovila is a Saison and I’m eager to try it.  I just hope this Saison  isn’t too funky.  The third bottle in the series (which I don’t think has been released yet) is a Quad – I have to get one of those!

I hope everyone else prepared well for this storm; I feel bad for anyone housebound without beer!

Cheers!

Clipper City – Holy Sheet

image

Hanging at The Capital Ale House in Midlothian, VA this evening, I ordered a Heavy Seas Belgian Dubbel.  I admit, I really liked the name “Holy Sheet” and seeing it was a Dubbel, I had to give it a try!

I am actually very surprised at what a great beer this is.  It has a raisin taste up front and a malty finish… combined with a lot of alcohol, this beer is delicious!

Having had many Clipper City beers, they are a solid brewery with lots of great brews!  Give ‘um a try!

Ovila – A Successful Collaboration

So, Sierra Nevada Brewery makes another successful beer and it’s sooo delicious!  The Ovila Dubbel is a collaboration beer between Sierra Nevada and the monks at the Abbey of New Clairvaux.  My husband popped open a bottle of this tonight to share with my brother and sister-in-law and we all had a different opinion of what we tasted.    I said anise, but other comments were apple, fruit, nuts, liquor and a comparison to a regular brown ale.  One thing we did agree on is it has a rich, smooth taste and we’d have it again!  Cheers!
